First Family Campout

This past weekend we decided to take the kids camping. James and JL went the weekend before with the ward for their first father/son campout, and James had pretty much been talking about it non-stop since. So, Friday afternoon we packed up the truck, gathered up the kids and the pup, got us some Big Red Slurpees, and headed out.

We had a great time. We cooked hamburgers and dutch oven dump cake about an hour after we arrived. James was so excited, he couldn't bother himself with food. He spent a great deal of time wandering camp looking for the perfect spot to play baseball with Daddy. Isabel had a bit of food before spending her evening picking up rocks and leafs and trying to catch bids. It was really fun to see the two of them wandering around checking out all the new and exciting things around them.

I would say the kids' favorite part had to be the tent. James thought it was his little house and Isabel had a blast rolling around on the soft pillows and wrestling with James. Everyone was exhausted...that is until it was time to shut off the lantern, crawl in the tent and go to sleep. Then suddenly it was a whole new adventure that required more wrestling and giggling and raspberry blowing and pillow fighting. The only one that caught on right away was Pancho. He was beat! He curled up in a little corner of the tent and tried his best to stay out of the war-path.

After about an hour of Dad's stories and some singing and more wrestling, the kids started to settle down. Once asleep, James slept like a log! Nothing can wake that boy up! Not even Pancho making a pillow out of James' head. Isabel slept for about 45 minutes before waking up and freaking because she had no clue where she was. I think she forgot we were camping and got nervous when she wasn't in her crib. This happened about 4 times every 30 to 45 mins. I was a little worried that I was in for a super long night, but somewhere around 3am she must have decided she was ok and that was the last I heard from her.

The next morning JL made us baked oatmeal in the dutch. James got in a few more hours of baseball before we broke camp and headed home. We all had a great time! Exhausting, yes, but totally worth it. We would like to make this a once a month venture. But next time....perhaps a bigger tent and some cots!

How fun! You got some really cute pictures. I can't believe how big Pancho has gotten already. What a cute furball!

That's awesome. We used to camp more often in Colorado where the winters weren't as hot. In Texas, the time to camp is not during the summer, but that's when we think about it. Looks like the beginning of something wonderful for your family.
