I enjoy a good road trip. I love being out on the road, tunes playing, scenery changing. There's just something about it. Thankfully, my kids enjoy it too. Or at least, they are good travelers and don't complain about it. (I think it comes from dragging them around since they were babies while we searched for
our ranch land!)
So I decided to take everyone on a field trip! Somewhere I've wanted to go for a long time, but never had. Somewhere that seemed perfect for a hot summer day with 3 kids. Somewhere that Mom would enjoy, that isn't too far away. I've got it - the
Blue Bell Ice Cream Factory!!

We invited our
friends to join us (I knew they'd been wanting to go for a while too!) and we set off. It was a bit of a drive, but the kids did great. They looked at books and sang Disney songs as the miles passed us by.
When we arrived, 3 very excited children spilled out of my van. I put Wyatt in the stroller and James happily pushed him as we made our way to the entrance. Along the way were beautiful trees and lush gardens. The humidity slapped me in the face as soon as we started walking, but it's been so long since we've had moisture of any kind, I happily overlooked it. We stopped along the way to admire the statues and a cool old ice cream truck!

Inside, we were able to walk right in. The tour only cost me $5 (kids 5 and under were free!) and there was no line for tickets. They gave us our own ice cream hat (which my kids only wore for about 2 seconds) and a ton of brochures on the history of the area/factory. We only had about a 2 minute wait until our tour time, so I took a few pictures of the adorable waiting room.

The guided tour only lasted about 30 minutes. (There was no photography allowed.) I would have liked to have seen more of the factory, but it was just the perfect amount of "history" for the kids. And at the end - a huge cafeteria room with every flavor imaginable for us to gobble up! Naturally, this was the kids favorite part!

Afterwards, we decided to try to find a city park for lunch. I felt bad to sugar up the kids and then force them to get back in the van for a long drive home. Plus, we had packed lunches, so a picnic felt necessary.

Wyatt loves the slides! He goes down all by himself now. No matter how high!

We all decided that the factory was so fun, we'd like to go again sometime. And for some strange reason, I have this huge need to rush right out and buy some Blue Bell!
