Summer

Although it isn't technically summer yet, the temps around here would say otherwise. So, this morning I gave my boys their new hot weather 'do.

The Before Shot

James before

Wyatt before

The After Shot

James after

Wyatt after

They were both willing and ready, although now James will say he doesn't like it. He thinks his hair is gone for forever! :) Wyatt is all for the change. He looks so grown up now!

Q & A

Q: What do you do when a hose leaks onto the lawn and makes a nice, thick mud puddle?

A: You make the best of the situation!

(His sister was in on this also, she just refused to pose for any pictures!)

Kickers

Wyatt inherited James' old boots. And boy, does he love them!

Parties

The day of James' actual birthday, he and Isabel attended another party for his best gal pal Rose (born on the same day as him - pretty much a tradition to celebrate together since the day they were born!) at Chuck E Cheese. First time for us to go there. Let me just tell you - the kids had a blast! Pictures to come (they are on my phone.)

That night, we had his family party. Uncle Matt was in town so it was double special for him to have so many visitors for his big day. Grammy made him a homemade chocolate cake, we opened presents, and then played with presents until the wee hours of the morning! Everyone that is, (except Wyatt who retired early).

My kids are THE cutest kids. Sorry everyone else.

I can't believe this boy is 5!

Izzy was clapping as James opened presents :)

Grammy got James some camo glasses! He instantly dubbed them "huntin' glasses" and wears them constantly now!

Yes, Dad got James a B B Gun for his 5th birthday!

I got him a bike and the sweetest helmet!

On Saturday, we had his friend party. I'm not big on friend parties every year, but 5 seems like a big one, so I figured we'd celebrate in style. We rented the most awesome bouncer! I had kept it a surprise from James, so you can imagine how excited he was when the truck came and the guy started inflating it. He just kept saying "Whoa! That is awesome mom!" It was a great party. 5 acres is very conducive to large groups of kids! :)

Waiting for the blowie to inflate. All 3 of them were so excited!

The thing was awesome! Originally, I had reserved a water slide, but due to an unforseen leak with our well, we had to switch it up last minute. But I think it turned out much better! The day was cool (78) and just right for a nice, dry activity. They loved it!

Wyatt loved the cheese puffs!

Kids and land. So nice!

James and his buddy Max chowing down on some cake.

After all the kids left, the rest of us played! It was fun even for the adults!

FIVE!

James turns 5 today! I can't even believe it. My heart is full thinking about all the joy this little guy has given us over the past five years.

Right now he's big into boy stuff. He likes to camp with Dad and hunt for bugs/animals/critters. He is a sweetheart and also quick to say thank you and please. He continues to be a stickler for rules and has a good appreciation for his boundaries. I think he is old beyond his few years sometimes. He's a very deep thinking. Often he'll ponder something for a few hours and then bring up the subject later on with a whole new batch of questions.

He continues his huge love of baseball! He can hit a ball clear out of the yard with his metal bat. He also has a new love for basketball and karate. He's a very good helper - often times he will ask me if there is something he can do for me around the house. He's very good at unloading the dishwasher and putting his laundry in his closet. He works hard and without complaint.

Five seems like such a milestone birthday. I have to admit, today is an emotional one for me. I look at James and think to myself 'that is the little boy I brought home from the hospital just a short time ago! And now look at him! So self-sufficient and smart!' I plan to relish these last few months remaining before he starts school and enters a whole new part of his little life.

We love him to pieces. I can't wait to see all the new and fun things he learns over the next five years.

Alive

Hello Quack Fans. I'm still here. Alive and well. My blog is still here, although I have started another one (see the link to the left under the "About Me" profile if you want to check it out.)

So, it's been a wild month. We celebrated Easter, moved houses, enrolled James in Kindergarten (yes, again), and started the task of un-boxing all our stuff. It has been busy, but fun. Exhausted? Yes, I am. I probably will be for the rest of this year :) but I'm always willing to post a few random pictures for those of you pestering me for blog updates (you know who you are....) ;-)

Here's a few from Easter:

This is us packing up a few last minute things:

It's possible we squeezed in a trip to the farm store to check out the live chickens, goats, and mini pigs. The kids were HUGE fans of the mini pigs. Ok, I admit, I was a huge fan too - they are adorable! We were lucky to get out of there without a purchase. JL wanted a chick so bad - but Grandma and I were able to convince him the poor thing wouldn't survive the move.
