New Motivation

I think I seriously may have bought my last, huge pack of diapers for James!

I decided about 5 months too late, but with about 2 weeks to spare to sign James up for Preschool starting this fall. Well, come to find out, the 3 yr old class requires all kids to be potty trained before the first day of school. When is that? Oh, in about 10 days!

I immediately hit panic mode somewhere around Tuesday. I told James that he couldn't start school unless he learned how to potty in the big potty chair. Well, apparently, he wants to go to school so bad, that was the only motivation he needed.

He woke up yesterday morning and proudly told me he had to pee. Immediately we went into the potty and VIOLA! Just like a pro. The shocking part was, he did this off and on throughout the morning. And while it didn't hurt he was receiving an award each time (in the form of a hot wheel) it was like all of a sudden the lights just came on in his head!

Things were going so well, I scrubbed the pull-ups and went with the undies I had tried once before, but then gave up on when we went through all 10 pairs in a matter of 4 hrs. But yesterday - we only went through 2!!!

Suddenly he knew when something was about to happen and could tell me before it did. I seriously think kids just potty train when they are ready. There is no rushing it or forcing it. Had he not been so open to it now, I probably would have killed myself trying for 2 days before deciding to let the dream die (right along with preschool.) But YAY! Things are looking like BOTH might happen!

Infact, he is totally opposed to wearing diapers now. I had a heck of a time trying to talk him into his overnight diaper last night because I called it a diaper. Heaven forbid! hehe And so far today, he's accident free and doing just great!

Yipee! You just potty trained your first kid! Awesome job, I'm glad he will get into the preschool. Want to get together this week and figure out when to do their thing?

Congratulations to both of you--to James for knowing it's the right time," and to Mom for having the patience to wait for his timeline.
