Holiday Kickoff

Thanksgiving this year was held at our house. JL's sister Erin and her husband Matt arrived on 11/23 with their 1 yr old Benji. That evening, JL's Mom also arrived. We spent Monday shopping for turkey day groceries and relaxing around the house.

Yes, it took 3 carts

Tuesday, JL, Matt and Grandma made a riser for our media room sofa while Erin and I got our hair cut.

James and Benji were so cute. They really played well together!

Wednesday we all took a drive to go and pick up our pies. We also picked up Kristie (JL's other sister) that evening from the airport. We were stoked she was able to make the trip!

Thursday JL, Matt, Erin, Me, James and Benji participated in the Turkey Trot. It was packed with people! I think they said there was something like 12k people this year! The best part was, the weather decided to cooperate and be nice and warm (ie muggy.) I think James and Benji had a great time. There was tons of stuff going on and a lot of stuff to entertain them. They were both really good and cruised around in the strollers the whole time!

Grandma and Kristie and Isabel were kind enough to stay at the house to cook us up some wonderful Thanksgiving food and tend to JL's smoked Turkey while he was trottin'! We had Dario and his family over to help us celebrate. The kids all had a blast playing guitar hero and running around. OK, so maybe the adults had a blast playing guitar hero WHILE the kids ran around. :-)

The kids had time to play while the smoked turkey finished smokin'

JL's masterpiece turned out to be fantastic!

Rock it!

Friday we packed up the whole gang and headed out to Sea World. James hadn't been since his 1st birthday. All I can say is, some things never change. HE LOVED IT! He was captivated the whole time - only this time he could talk and tell us how excited he was. And to my surprise, Izzy Jeanne at just 9 mo's also had a great time. She was especially fond of the Dolphin/Diving show. It was a great day!

Saturday was family picture day. We loaded up, once again, and headed over to the Mall. I was very nervous about taking 3 little ones over to have family pictures taken after such a busy past couple of days - but they did great!!! And I'm really happy with the way the pictures turned out. (Thanks again Jennifer for the Picture People recommendation!)

That afternoon we sadly said goodbye to Erin, Matt and Benji. The rest of us curled up in the media room for Iron Man and pizza!

Sunday was recooperate day. In the midst of all this fun, my family was sick! I had kept the kids practically in quaranteen the week before trying to prevent illness. Only to have James start the week sick, Isabel end up with an Ear Infection somewhere around Wednesday. Two trips to the dr. later we were starting her on Antibiotics. In the meantime, JL and I had come down with a virus. We both started the week off with nothing more than a sore throat. His is still hanging on while mine developed into Broncitis. We both went in Friday before leaving for Sea World. I was lucky (if that's the right word) enough to be given antibiotics and cough syrup. He was told to come back in 5 days if he hadn't improved.

While the antibiotics helped, I was ready to die by Saturday night. Can we say - overdoing it? The cough syrup they gave me was crazy powerful. I was soooo drowsy I spent most of Saturday/Sunday in a gray fog. Did I mention the part about me sleeping through Iron Man? Or how about me waking up at 9pm just long enough to have ice cream/pie with the family only to doze off about 2 seconds afterwards. Pathetic! Even today I'm drowsy. I think I'm going to lay off the cough syrup tonight and see if I can sleep w/out it. In the meantime, has anyone seen my voice?

looks like great fun, minus the sick part! hope you're feeling better. I had the same experience over Christmas last year and it was a bummer to miss out on some of the fun - but it was still fun to enjoy the holiday

Nice recap Lis!! you got some great pics! I hope you are feeling better. I took Ben to the dr again yesterday. His ears are so severly infected she gave him and injection of antibiotics! and another ten day round of oral antibiotics! I hope James and Izzy don't get anything like he has! We had a ton of fun with you guys and can't wait to see you all again! Thanks again for everything!

I sympathize with the sickness- Jack ended up missing out on Thanksgiving this year (and well, that meant Sam too). Looks like the rest of it was a lot of fun though.

Hope your feeling better soon!

So you told me you were sick and I am imagining you laying in bed all week while your poor family is visiting. But apparantly not!!! You got plenty of action. Looks like you guys had an awesome time!
