First Homework & Game

From 0 to 60 - James' life really has changed a lot during the last 2 months. He's gone from carefree play day after day to structured, 7 hr school days. And you know, he is thriving! He LOVES school.

Last week, (Sept 22) James had his first homework assignment. It was a simple writing paper where he was asked to write a capital M followed by a lower case m. I was SHOCKED at how well he did! He and I had been practicing letters and sounds during the summer, and he was getting the hang of things - but this James had it down! He was able to write beautiful M's and m's (without the tracing lines for help) and he repeated the sounds of M through the whole thing. I was impressed.

The other thing he's make huge improvements on is writing his name. He now writes his name (in the correct order!) without any problem. And it is completely legible! This is huge for him, and I think it reflects in his confidence. He is excited now about letters and sounds and often will sing or say sounds to words during his daily talk.

I may miss him still during the day (although I am coping quite well) but I am so thrilled that he's entered this exciting phase of life! He loves to learn new things and then rush home and tell me about them. It's fun to see him growing.

That same day was his opening game in Little League. It was a great game and he had a blast! It was so fun to see him out there actually playing a game of baseball. The sport has been such a huge part of his life, and JL and I have always watched him pitch and bat, but to see him in an actual game was something new. He is really good!! We are so proud of him!

Homework's done - time to pitch a few before the game! (We put his name on his glove - he requested the lightning bolt!)

Before the big game: James' biggest fan, Ast. Coach JL, and James in his Hot Rod Uniform

There couldn't be a better team name for this boy. Huge love for baseball and fast cars!

Warming up

Izzy cheering him on

In the dug-out

Getting ready to bat

Brother takes it all in

At the end of the game - Coach talking to the boys. We won - but that is never emphasized. If you ask James, he will tell you they tied "but it doesn't matter because we all had fun!"

After-game snacks!

JL and James celebrating our first game. Naturally we had to go for ice cream! James just loves that JL is Ast. Coach for the team! He sometimes will say "Nice coaching tonight, Dad." ;-p hehe

James has always been sooooo smart and interested in learning new things. Knew he'd love school and school work. Same goes for baseball--he's a Natural!!! Cute pictures of James and HIS Assistant Coach!!!!
